Why people are returning to church

Lately, as I scroll through my feeds, I keep noticing something beautiful: people are coming back to church.

Some are returning after years away. Others are walking through the doors for the very first time.

Maybe it’s just the social-media algorithms—but I don’t think so. Something deeper is stirring. We’re watching a generation wake up to the emptiness of a self-made life, one that says, “you do you,” but never tells you who you actually are.

When truth becomes a matter of personal preference, life starts to feel thin, weightless, and detached from anything bigger than ourselves.

“As long as I’m happy…”

I remember a time before I was a Christian when I told a friend, “I don’t really care about that—as long as I’m happy.”

Even as I said it, I knew how hollow it sounded. I knew it couldn’t hold the weight of meaning or morality. It was a statement that revealed not confidence, but confusion. Praise God, He rescued me from a worldview I didn’t even believe myself.

Deep down, most of us know that “my truth” can’t carry us very far. It might sound empowering for a season, but it leaves us restless and untethered. We were made for something more—something real, objective, and eternal.

A Hunger for the Real Thing

All across the country, people are realizing that we need more than positivity, self-expression, or vague spirituality. We need truth that doesn’t shift with the wind. We need community that lasts. We need worship that lifts our eyes higher than ourselves.

And the good news is: we were made for that. God created us to know Him, to love Him, and to worship Him with His people. The church isn’t a social club or a spiritual hobby—it’s the place where heaven touches earth, where sinners find grace, and where wanderers come home.

“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’” — Psalm 122:1

If you’ve been sensing that same hunger, that same pull toward something solid and true—come and see what God is doing.

The church didn’t start 50 years ago—or even 100. The New Testament church began 2,000 years ago at Pentecost, but God’s plan to gather His people began in Genesis and in His eternal heart before the world was made.
